We have received the following request from the CANwalk Walking Coordinator.

“Part of the establishment of CANwalk was a response to our former Chief Minister John Stanhope who commented that he was always inundated with feedback from the Pedal Power lobby but rarely received comments from pedestrians and walkers in Canberra. Mr Stanhope went on to explain that the government was more likely to act on feedback from a collective of groups or organisations rather than a few ‘squeaky wheels’.

An opportunity has arisen to provide coordinated feedback to the ACT Government on 2 walking related projects. It would be great if we could provide a united response on behalf of all walking organisations in the ACT.

The responses could be collected and collated using the survey monkey tool, (a simple online survey). Only 10 short questions. No responses would be altered and a detailed report of data as well as a summary of recommendations could be forwarded to appropriate authorities.

The 2 documents that require feedback are;

· GTA consultants have been engaged to report on the safety-related factors, that you, as someone concerned with cycling issues, faces in the ACT.
This is an opportunity to raise any concerns/issues relating to the interaction between cyclists and walkers in the ACT. (Due 22nd Nov)

·       Centenary_Trail_Ground_Truthing_Final_Report  (Due 15th Dec) ”

If you are prepared to complete a short online survey please complete the form. Your email address will be sent to CANwalk who will email you a link to the survey.

For several years the Club “Rules For Walkers” have included:-

All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

Earlier in 2011 the executive reviewed the situation of under age walkers and all leaders were informed of a revised policy:-

that no person under the age of 18 can participate in an FBI walk unless accompanied by a parent or guardian

This has proved to be too restrictive and has now been changed to:-

That no person under the age of 18 can participate in an FBI walk unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult who is either a close relative or authorised by the parent or guardian

A revised attendance sheet will be available for leaders soon, and the executive is continuing examination of the issue of under 18 walkers who wish to walk outside this rule.
